If the substrate is non-absorbent or poorly absorbent, Kalei Additive can be added. The additive ensures better adhesion to painted substrates. However, the adhesion of the new layer of kalei is only as good as the adhesion of the underlying old paint layers.
This additive provides improved adhesion
On smooth, non-absorbent substrates;
on well adhering paint layers of painted substrates (because of the weight of the kalei and its moisture retaining character, the adhesion of all underlying layers must also be good);
on poorly absorbent substrates.
However, the adhesion of Kalei will always be better on absorbent substrates.
Kalei Additive does NOT help
for poorly adhesive painted substrates;
on saturated substrates;
on substrates treated with water-repellent products (e.g. siloxanes, ...).
The assessment of the existing paint layers is the responsibility of the painter. If in doubt about the existing paint, it must be removed. Only in consultation with the client can any other decision be made.
